CVNT---Center Point (Joensy's)---CVNT

Riders: Clint, Alecia, Tom, Christine, Montel, Susan, Jim N., Dick, Mark, Jerry, Jim Mc., Dan, Carla, Sue, Lynn, Bruce, Peggy, Alex, Kay, Doug, Dan T.

The FMR left from CVNT at around 5:30, headed to Joensy's in CP, led by Bruce. They were expecting us, and we got seated right away, the service and food were excellent. That got us out quickly, with lots of daylight left.

On the return, a few miles up the trail, a short stick flipped up and it caught in Dick's front wheel, and as it rotated up to the fork, the bike stopped, and Dick went over the handlebars---Jerry, with no place to go, went down as well. We spent quite a bit of time with Dick at the site, and Jim Mc. arranged for Dan (who was riding with us) and Cheryl, who live in Robins, to bring a vehicle, so we could get Dick to the E.R. He had a nasty laceration under his eye, and lots of road rash. Cheryl drove from Alice Road right down the trail, picked him up, and off to the E.R. No further updates yet this morning. Jerry was also injured with road rash. They are both quite sore this morning, I'm sure. At the time of the accident, it wasn't even dark yet, which helped. Many thanks to Dan and Cheryl!!!

Several riders proceeded back, and after Dick was E.R. bound, the rest of us headed back. Thanks to all for the help, supplies, support, etc. last night.

We arrived back to CVNT around 9:30. Other than the accident, it was a great night weatherwise, foodwise, and groupwise. Oh BTW, the "moon" was out.

Thanks to all who participated.

Dan

Bob:  Could you help me by posting the following message on the HBA ride report forum under Dan’s post for the Full Moon Ride?  I applied for the forum but haven’t been cleared yet and I want to let everyone know I’m fine.  Sort of.

Dan has explained the crash very well and I can’t add much to his description.  I had no idea what happened until I was lying on the trail.  I want to thank Dan for his first aid efforts.  Although I was joking around I was pretty upset.  Dan’s good work helped me to stay calm.  I also thank Cheryl and Dan for the ambulance service to the ER and Jim for his efforts to secure transportation.  I don’t know many of the names of the riders yesterday, but thank you all for your help and support.  And for not laughing.  My apologies to Jerry for causing him to go down. The news at the ER was mostly good.  It took nine stitches to close the cut under my right eye, but there are no broken bones or head injury.  Thank goodness for helmets and the sense to wear them.  I was most concerned about my knee replacement, but there was no structural damage.  I’ll be sore for a while and my appearance will frighten small children and horses, but that’s nothing new.  I’ll post pictures later today on my Facebook page.  Just search for Dick Stater.
I have enjoyed immensely riding with HBA.  A bike rider couldn’t ask for a better group of people.
Thanks again for your concern and support and have a great time on RAGBRAI.

Went to the doctors today and took some x-rays of the right knee.  Have some swelling and fluid under the knee cap.  There's also a small chip in the knee cap and some road rash on the right elbow. I got a knee brace and a bottle of ibuprofen, so I'm ready for RAGBRAI.

I too, want to thank everyone for their conduct at the accident.  The whole group was there to help, even those ahead came back. I'm proud to be a member of HBA.

It wasn't Dick's fault...accidents happen.

Thanks to Dick and Jerry for the updates. Glad the news is pretty good.

Get well Dick-----Jerry, we'll see you on Saturday----you might need some "medicine" along the way on Ragbrai to help with any discomfort!?!
